PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Facing a team that stood atop the Ivy League for the second-straight match, Brown fought to two close sets with conference-leading Yale, but ultimately fell 3-0 (19-25, 13-25, 22-25). Yale was paced by the duo of Erica Reetz and Haley Wessels, who had had 13 and 10 kills, respectively. Junior middle blocker Kathryn Glickman (San Francisco, Calif.) had a match-high three blocks for the Bears.
Brown actually took the first point of the match on a kill from sophomore Emma Pastore (Los Angeles, Calif.), but Yale used a 7-1 run to take control. Despite the deficit, Brown fought back to close within two at 12-10 on a service ace by rookie Taylor Bantle (Pacific Palisades, Calif.).
Yale held a five point lead at the 20-15 mark in the first set, but Brown hung tough, closing to within three with the help of a kill by freshman Maddie Lord (La Jolla, Calif.). It was the Bulldogs who would prevail however, closing out the set on a kill from Millie Rogers.
Even though Yale rolled through the second set, the Bears came out with a renewed focus in the third, taking the lead at 8-7. Brown continued to battle, holding late frame ties at 18 and 19-all, but once again, the Bulldogs were able to triumph, closing out the set on a 6-2 run.
Lord led the Bears with seven kills in the match, while sophomore setter Alexandra Rieckhoff (Laguna Beach, Calif.) had a team-high 23 assists to go along with a kill, four digs and two blocks.
The Bears hit the road next weekend, when they travel to take on Cornell and Columbia.
