PROVIDENCE, R.I. – On Saturday night at the Pizzitola Sports Center it was all Big Green as Dartmouth topped Brown in straight sets (17-25, 22-25, 17-25). Sophomore outside hitter Emma Pastore (Los Angeles, Calif.) led the Bears for the second-straight game with a match-high 11 kills, but the Bears could not overcome errors and an efficient Big Green offensive attack.
Pastore opened the match with a kill as Brown lead 10-9 early in the first set, but Dartmouth used a 8-2 run to take control of frame. Bruno closed to within four at the 20-16 mark on a kill by freshman Maddie Lord (La Jolla, Calif.), but the Big Green closed it out on a 5-1 run.
The Bears seemed to bounce back in the second, jumping out to an early 7-3 lead on a service ace by freshman defensive specialist Kathryn Conner (Newport Beach, Calif.). Brown continued to lead until the 13-12 mark, but Dartmouth fought back against the Bruno rally. The Big Green took the lead at 15-14 and did not look back, holding the advantage throughout the rest of the set.
The third game was tight early as the two teams were deadlocked at 10-all. From there it was all Dartmouth. The Big Green picked up three-straight kills to take the lead and then used a 9-3 run to take control on their way to a 3-0 win.
Senior Annika Gliottone (Warwick, R.I.) posted a match-high 30 assists and added 13 digs for a double-double. Sophomore Alexandra Rieckhoff (Laguna Beach, Calif.) tallied another match high with 14 digs.
The Bears take the court next weekend when they travel to take on Penn at 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 14 and Princeton at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 15.
