Bears Trump Cornell In Straight Sets
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown hit the road for its final two games of the 2010-11 season and took on Cornell Friday night. Senior Brianna Williamson (Cincinnati, Ohio) took advantage of her second-to-last game and posted a double-double with 11 kills and 15 digs to help the Bears (9-16, 3-10) to a 3-0 (25-21, 25-18, 25-20) win over the Big Red (4-19, 2-11).
The Bears controlled the entire match and held a 20-8 advantage at one point during the second set. Cornell was able to fight back in each set, but Brown was able to clamp down and close out each set.
Williamson wasn't the only senor to take advantage of her last two games with Brown as Danielle Vaughan (Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif.) tallied nine kills while hitting at a .389 clip and chipped in a dig and a block.
Sophomore Katrina Post (Pasadena, Calif.) posted a game-high 12 kills and just missed out on a double-double with eight digs. Post filled up the statsheet as well, registering two service aces and a block.
Freshman setter Alexandra Rieckhoff (Laguna Beach, Calif.) had a game-high 36 assists and three service aces. Fellow rookie Emma Pastore (Los Angeles, Calif.) helped out with eight kills and five digs while junior libero Annika Gliottone (Warwick, R.I.) had a game-high 19 digs.
The Bears wrap up the 2010 season tomorrow afternoon at 4 p.m. at Columbia.
