Bears Go Distance Against Yale, Fall 3-2
New Haven, Conn. – Yale (8-5, 2-0) boasted four players with double-digit kills as the Bulldogs downed Brown (6-8, 0-2) to take the second game of this weekend's home-and-home series. Freshman Emma Pastore (Los Angeles, Calif.) tallied a match-high 17 kills in the 3-2 (19-25, 25-20, 19-25, 8-15) loss.
The Bulldogs were in control throughout the first set and took a 1-0 lead with a 25-19 win in the first game. Brown regrouped in set two as back-to-back kills from sophomore Katrina Post (Pasadena, Calif.) gave the Bears a 13-10 advantage. The doubles kept coming from Brown when consecutive service aces from junior Annika Gliottone (Warwick, R.I.) gave the Bears a 25-20 victory.
Set three went Yale's way early as the Bulldogs took a 7-3 lead. However, a kill from sophomore Kathryn Glickman (San Fransico, Calif.) and back-to-back attack errors from Yale gave Brown a 13-12 lead. The advantage would not last as the Bulldogs used a 5-1 run at the end of set to retake the lead.
The fourth game was highly contested as both teams were knotted up at the 24-all mark. Brown took the lead on a bad set by Yale, buck a kill from Bridget Hearst tied it up again at 25. Another error from Yale put the Bears back up and a final attack error from the Bulldogs forced a fifth and deciding game.
In the final set, Yale was able to shake off the mistakes of the fourth game. A kill from Post tied the set up at six but the Bulldogs used a 9-2 run to win the match.
