Senior captain Moira Gallagher recorded a season-high 12 kills and seven digs in Ithaca on Saturday afternoon, but it wasn't enough to hold off the Big Red, who took a 3-1 victory on their home court. With the loss, the Bears fall to 4-12 overall and 0-5 in the Ivy League, while Cornell improves to 6-11 on the season and 3-2 in league play.
Cornell came out hot in the first set, hitting at a .219 rate and using solid offensive play to take a 25-16 win and an early 1-0 match lead. The Big Red also took the second set by a 25-21 margin, but Bruno struck back in the third, making a comeback bid. The Bears jumped out to a 16-10 lead and held on for a 25-17 win, getting back to within 2-1 overall. However, the Big Red settled back into a rhythm in the fourth, taking a hard-fought 25-23 victory to seal the match.
Freshman Katrina Post played her best overall match of the season, coming up just short of a double-double with nine kills and 11 digs, while fellow rookie Carly Cotton had a team-high 25 digs. Sophomore Spencer McAndrews had a solid game keying the offense, notching 37 assists setting up the Brown hitters.
The Bears will be back in action on Friday, October 23, when they return home to host Harvard at 7:00 p.m.
