The Brown volleyball team struggled in its first Ivy League competition of the season, falling 3-0 to an impressive Yale squad that has dropped only four sets all season. Freshman Alexandra Ilstad (Alamo, CA) looked strong in her first start of the year, recording 14 assists and two defensive digs. With the loss, the Bears fall to 4-8 overall and 0-1 in league play, while the Bulldogs up their record to 11-1 on the season and 1-0 in the Ivy League.
Yale wasted little time in setting a strong early tone, taking the first set by a final score of 25-15. The Bulldogs then followed that with matching 25-11 victories in the second and third sets as they racked up a .379 overall hitting percentage for the match. Offensively, Brown was led by rookie Christina Berry (Ladera Ranch, CA), who notched five kills, and added four digs. Classmate Carly Cotton (Newport Beach, CA) also played well, picking up a team-high nine digs.
The Bears will be back in action on Friday, October 9, when they return home to take on Ivy rival Penn at 7:00 p.m.
