Boston, MA-- The women's cross country team competed at the New England Championships on Friday, October 8 at Franklin Park. Brown placed second out of forty-five teams, bested only by Boston University.
Junior Annie Hatch (Tacoma, WA) finished first again for the Bears and 18th overall with a time of 18:29. Coming in next, in her second race of the season, was sophomore Michol Monaghan (Uniontown, PA) in 23rd place with a time of 18:38. Right behind her was junior Anna Willard (Greenwood, ME), also with a time of 18:38. Seniors Julie Komosinski (San Diego, CA) (28th, 18:41) and Emma Sarro (Chatham, NY) (47th, 19:01) rounded out Bruno's top 5.
In the JV race, sophomore Naja Ferjan (Ljubljan, Slovenia) dominated the field with a 41 second win over her closest competitor. Sophomore Madeleine Marecki (Morris, CT) was 8th with a time of 19:24. Freshmen Smita Gupta (Tulsa, OK) and Becky Crossin (Annandale, NJ) continued their pattern of close finishes by taking the 12th and 13th spots, just one second apart.
Brown next competes at the Heptagonal Championships on October 29 at Van Cortlandt Park in New York. Expect this race to be heavily contested, as many teams in the Ivy League are looking strong this year.
