Boston, MA - The freshmen Brown women's cross country runners gave their veteran teammates a rest on Saturday, and went out and compete at the New England Championships. Although no Bear finished in the top 20, many of the athletes made improvements from their times a few weeks ago when they competed at Van Cortlandt Park.
Middle distance runner Caitlin Clark (Granite Bay, CA) had a break-through day for Brown, as she beat her previous time by 45 seconds with a 19:25 and was the team's top finisher this weekend. Freshman Megan Fitzpatrick (Hopewell Valley, NJ) was Brown's second finisher, beating her previous best time by 40 seconds with a 19:32. Also showing improvement and promise was freshman Cara Harrison (Gaithersburg, MD) who finished the race with a 19:55, 12 seconds better than her previous best.
As a team, the Bears finished in 15th place in the varsity race, despite Brown's top seven runners not competing. The veteran runners are preparing to compete at the Penn State Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 13.
