Women Take Sixth at Iona Meet of Champions

New York City, NY - The women's cross country team competed today at the Iona Meet of Champions. The harriers raced a 6-kilometer course on Van Cortlandt Park in New York City. The Bears took sixth of 23 teams with 199 points. Cornell took home the team title with 67 points. Host school Iona was second with 115, and Dartmouth was third with 124.

The Bears fought close Ivy competition, as Princeton finished just ahead of Brown, taking fifth with 181 points and Harvard finished just behind in seventh with 212.

Junior Naja Ferjan (Ljubljana, Slovenia) finished first for the Bears. She took 21st overall in a time of 22:46.

Junior Michol Monaghan (Uniontown, PA) and senior captain Anna Willard (Greenwood, ME) crossed next, taking 31st (22:57) and 33rd (23:00) places.

Senior Anya Davidson (Brunswick, ME) made her 2005 cross country debut, and finished fourth for the Bears and 58th overall (23:27). Senior Jilane Rodgers (Brea, CA) rounded out the scorers in 74th (23:38).

The Bears compete next at the New England Championships at Franklin Park in Boston on Saturday, October 8.
