Anna Willard Takes Third In 3,000 Meter Steeplechase NCAA Prelim

Sacramento, CA - With the top five finishers in each heat advancing to Friday's final, Brown senior Anna Willard took third in her heat to move onto the finals of the women's 3,000 meter steeplechase at the 2006 NCAA Division Track and Field Championships in Sacramento, CA.

Willard's time of 10:12.66 was less than three-tenths of a second behind the second place finisher and just 1.28 seconds out of first. Willard came into the championships ranked seventh nationally in the steeplechase after winning the NCAA Regionals in North Carolina two weeks ago.

The finals of the 3,000 meter steeplechase will be held on Friday at 9:35 p.m. Eastern Time. The top eight finishers will earn All-American honors.

Meanwhile, fellow senior Brittany Grovey will begin competition in the triple jump on Friday at 4:00 p.m. Eastern Time. Grovey, who earned All-American honors in the triple jump during the indoor season, is seeded fourth in her flight as she reached a mark of 13.33 meters during the regular season.
