Women Take Third at Heptagonal Championships

New York City, NY - The women's track and field team traveled to New York City to participate in the Heptagonal League Championships this past weekend. The team took third, tallying 107 points to come in behind Cornell (177.5) and Columbia (110).

The Bears went 1-2 in the high jump. Senior Ashley Wall(Ellicott City, MD) scored big points for the Bears by taking first in the high jump (5'7.75") and second in the long jump (18'8.5"). Junior Erin Meschter (Danville, PA) was second in the high jump. Meschter set a personal best by clearing 5'7".

Junior Brittany Grovey (Hobbs, NM) defended her 2004 outdoor title in the triple jump with a mark of 41'8.75". Freshman Tiffany Chang (Lafeyette, CA) was third in the pole vault at 11'11.75".

Sophomore Laura Dudek (West Warren, MA) took second in the javelin with a throw of 134'4". Senior co-captain Jill Lynch (Racine, WI) placed third in both the shot put (43'6") and the discus (146'4"). Freshman Sarah Groothuis (Aurora, NE) took fourth in the discus, hitting 142'10". Senior Jennifer Donahue (Winter Park, FL) was fifth in the hammer with a mark of 155'7".

Sophomore Naja Ferjan (Ljubljana, Slovenia) took third in the 1500m run, clocking in at 4:31.30. Junior Anna Willard (Greenwood, ME) had a third place finish as well, in the 3000m steeplechase. Willard ran a personal best of 10:52.78. Freshman Akilah King (Medford, MA) placed sixth in the 200m dash (24.59).

The 4x800 relay (Willard, Julie Komosinski (San Diego, CA), Kelly Powell (East Patchogue, NY), Ferjan) was third with a time of 9:00.79.

The Bears will return to competition at the ECAC Championships next weekend.
