Providence, RI - Seven members of the Brown women's track & field team earned titles during the Brown Invitational on Saturday as the squad finished in second place with a combined 107 points. Dartmouth earned first place with 109.25 points, followed by the Bears, Southern Connecticut State (54), Rhode Island (44.75), Bryant (32) and Harvard (20).
The Bears had some stellar performances in both the running and field events. Sophomore Kesley Ramsey (Franklin Lakes, NJ) earned the 800-meter run title with a 2:12.63, as freshman Roseanne Fleming (Westlake Village, CA) followed right behind with a 2:13.54 for second. Rounding out the scoring in the event was freshman Bridge Black (Hanover, NH) with a strong 2:20.71 for sixth place.
Sophomore Lauren Pischel (La Jolla, CA) turned in a 10:06.52 in the 3,000m run for first place, and Brown's 4x100m relay squad earned the title with a 49.72. Also giving a great effort was sophomore Megan Fitzpatrick (Hopewell Valley, NJ) with a solid second place finish in the 1,500m run with a 4:50.61, as Rachel Baker turned in a 5:01.82 for fifth. Baker also posted a second place finish in the 3,000m steeplechase with a time of 11:33.46.
In the field, junior Anja Hergrueter (Newton, MA) claimed the high jump title with a 5-08.75, as sophomore Anna Cook (Burlington, NJ) came in eighth with a 4-11.00. Sophomore Rachel Biblo (Thiensville, WI) picked up the long jump title with a leap of 16-10.50, and junior Shannon Stone (Mont Vernon, NH) placed first in the triple jump with a 37-00.25. Biblo also had a solid performance in the triple jump as she earned a 35-05.00 for second place. Sophomore Brynn Smith (Saco, ME) was the meet's top finisher in the shot put, earning the title with a toss of 49-11.25.
Also competing well for Bruno was senior Molly Hawksley (Rumford, RI) in the hammer throw, as she picked up second place with a 157-06. Junior Katie Wood (St. Joseph, MO) turned in a solid 113-01 in the javelin throw to earn third place to round out Brown's scoring.
The Brown track & field team will now split up next weekend, as some will compete at Arkansas and the others will head to the UConn Invitational.
