Women's Track & Field Earns Third at UConn Invitational

Storrs, CT - The Brown women's track & field team competed at the UConn Invitational on Saturday and earned third place with a total of 80 points. Connecticut finished in first with a convincing 268.50 points, followed by Rhode Island (128.50), Brown, Sacred Heart in fourth (67), Providence College (59), UMass (57), Harvard in seventh (38) and Hartford finished with 18 points.
Brown sophomore Danielle Grunloh (Effingham, IL) earned Bruno's highest finish with a distance of 147-11 in the discus throw for second place. Grunloh also picked up third place in the shot put (45-00.50) as freshman teammate Brynn Smith (Sace, ME) followed right behind with a 44-08.00 for fourth.
Turning in other third-place efforts were freshman Rachel Biblo (Thiensville, WI) with a distance of 17-04.00 in the long jump, sophomore Shannon Stone (Mont Vernon, NH) in the triple jump (36-00.25), and Katie Wood (St. Joseph, MO) in the javelin (118-06). Earning fourth was Tiffany Chang (Lafayette, CA) in the pole vault, clearing 10-11.75, and freshman Grace Watson (Belmont, MA) in the high jump as she cleared 5-03.00.
Chang turned in Brown's top performance in the 100-meter dash (sixth) with a 13.05, as Natasha Smith (Gloucester, MA) earned a 26.51 in the 200-meter for 10th. Megan Fitzpatrick (Hopewell Valley, NJ) earned Brown's top finish in the 1,500-meter (eighth) with a time of 4:54.17.
The Bears also had a few athletes competing at the Stanford University Invitational over the weekend. Michaeline Nelson (McLean, VA) finished 15th in the 800-meter run "B" section with a 2:14.01, followed by Kesley Ramsey (Franklin Lakes, NJ) in 22nd with a 2:16.26. Jenna Ridgway (4:37.70) and Caitlin Clark (4:38.34) earned 32 and 33rd, respectively, in the 1,500-meter run "B" sections, followed by Nelson in 35th with a 4:38.78. Senior Smita Gupta (Tulsa, OK) also competed for Bruno in the 5,000-meter run section one, and finished with a 17:00.84 for 22nd place.
On Saturday, April 12, the Bears will host the Brown Invitational.
