Bears Race at Competitive Stanford Invitational
April 1, 2007
Palo Alto, CA -
The women's track and field squad traveled to Palo Alto, California to compete in the highly competitive Stanford Invitational as a part of their annual spring break training trip. The team carried a very limited squad, and competed for the most part in distance events. A standout performance was freshman Jenna Ridgway's (Santa Barbara, CA) race in the 5,000 meter, in which she was just shy of the current school record.
Ridgway placed second in the third section of the 5,000 meter run with her time of 16:40.08. Her performance places her second on the Brown Top Ten Performance list, just behind the time Anna Willard '06 set at the same meet last year.
Sophomore Lindsay Kahn (Port Jefferson, NY) placed thirteenth in the second section of the 3,000 meter steeplechase with a 10:50.28 run.
In the middle distances, senior Naja Ferjan (Ljubljana, Slovenia) placed 23rd in the Top 800 meter competition in 2:10.41. Freshman Brooke Giuffre (Carlsbad, CA) placed 31st in the "B" 800 with her time of 2:17.15. Ferjan and Giuffre both also competed in the "B" 1500 meter race, and placed 21st in 4:32.36, and 48th in 4:38.71, respectively.
In the pole vault, sophomore Kristen Olds (Painesville, OH) placed 11th in the "B" competition with a jump of 10-11.75
The Bears will compete next with the entire squad at the UCONN Alumni Invitational in Storrs, CT on April 7.
