Women Compete at ECAC Championships

Boston, MA - The Bears competed this weekend in the ECAC and IC4A Championships in Boston. Four men and twelve women represented Brown at the meets.
The highlight for the women came with a win in the triple jump by junior Brittany Grovey. Her mark of 41-01.75 gave her the top spot in the highly competitive field. Grovey already set the school record in the event earlier in the season.
Also competing for the women were seniors Fara Kitton (60-meter hurdles- 9.03), Julie Komosinski (mile run- 5:03.25), co-captain Jill Lynch (shot put- 42-05.50), Ashley Wall (long jump- 17-11.50), and Jennifer Donahue (weight throw- 50-04.5), and juniors Janea Russ (pole vault) and co-captain Kelly Powell (800-meter run- 2:14.98). The Bears also fielded a 4x800-meter relay squad (9:18.95) consisting of junior Anna Willard, sophomore Oriana Farley, and frosh Smita Gupta and Becky Crossin.
The men were highlighted by the fifth place finish of junior Owen Washburn in the 3,000-meter run (8:16.95).
Also competing for the men's squad was frosh Ozzie Myers in the 1,000-meter run, who crossed with a personal best of 2:28.89. Senior Michael Piche and sophomore Eamon Quick competed for Brown in the mile run.
Several of the Bears' top athletes who had qualified for the championships opted to skip competition in preparation for the upcoming outdoor season.
This marks the end of the indoor track season for the Bears. Competition will resume with the start of the outdoor season on April 9 as Brown travels to the University of Connecticut.
