Boston, MA -
Senior Naja Ferjan (Ljubljana, Slovenia) and junior Smita Gupta (Tulsa, OK) competed at the Eastern College Athletic Coference Championships this weekend. Both runners placed in the top five in their respective events.
Ferjan placed fourth in the finals of the 800 meter run, with a 2:11.13. Her performance in the preliminaries, a 2:08.79, met the provisional qualifying standards for the NCAA Division I championship meet. However as it was the provisional qualifying time, she would have had to come in first place to move on.
Gupta placed fifth in the 3,000 meter run with a time of 9:39.47.
Several of the Bears' top athletes who had qualified for the championships opted to skip competition in preparation for the upcoming outdoor season.
This marks the end of the indoor track season for the Brown track and field team. Competition will resume with the start of the outdoor season on March 30 at the Stanford Invitational in Palo Alto, CA.
