Ithaca, NY - The Brown women's indoor track & field team finished in second place at the 2008 Ivy League Heptagonal Championships at Cornell University on Sunday. The Bears combined for 107 points, and placed behind Princeton's 114 points. In third was Cornell (100), fourth was Harvard (46), Penn (45), Columbia in fifth (45), Yale in seventh (36), and Dartmouth in eighth (34).
Senior Akilah King (Medford, MA) finished in third in the 60m dash with a 7.75, and after finishing in first-place and breaking her previous meet record as well as the Barton Hall record, Thelma Breezeatl (Manassas, VA) placed eighth in the finals (8.49). Junior Nicole Burns (Newburgh, NY) and King locked up second and third place finishes, respectively, in the 200m, as Burns tallied a 25.00, and King tallied a 25.10.
Burns earned the 400m dash title with a 55.78, and senior Smita Gupta (Tulsa, OK) came in fifth place in the one mile run (4:50.83). Freshman Samantha Adelberg (Washington, DC) earned second in the 800m, while Gupta earned second in the 3,000m run.
Brown's Grace Watson (Belmont, MA) posted a 5-08.00 in the high jump for second, as Natasha Smith (Gloucester, MA) finished right behind with a 5-08.00 for third. Senior Tiffany Chang (Lafayette,CA) earned fourth in the pole vault (11-09.75) and King finished in fourth in the long jump (18-10) and third in the triple jump (39-05.25).
In the shot put, Bruno's Danielle Grunloh (Effingham, IL) placed second (47-06.50) and Smith earned first place in the women's indoor pentathlon.
