Women's DMR Earns Title at New York Armory

The Brown women’s track & field team had some outstanding performances on Saturday afternoon at The Armory Track & Field Center. Highlighting the afternoon was the women’s distance medley relay of freshman Roseanne Fleming (Westlake Village, CA), sophomore Amanda Filiberto (Northport, NY), sophomore Samantha Adelberg (Washington, DC) and sophomore Kesley Ramsey (Franklin Lakes, NJ), who contributed to the team’s stellar first place finish with an 11:42.36.
During the distance medley relay, Fleming led off in a tactical 1200m leg, and passed the baton in first place to Filiberto for the 400m leg. Adelberg ran a 2:10 split, and Ramsey ran a 4:54 anchor to easily earn the victory. Wake Forest was eight seconds behind Bruno for second place (11:50.43) while Virginia crossed the line at 11:53.05 for third.
Brown turned in more solid performances in the field events, as the squad earned titles in both the high jump and shot put. Sophomore Grace Watson (Belmont, MA) won the high jump with a 1.65m, and junior Danielle Grunloh (Effingham, IL) tossed a 14.38m in the shot put. Sophomore Brynn Smith (Saco, ME) posted a 15.96m throw in the weight throw for second place.
Fleming continued to show an outstanding effort in the 800m run, turning in a personal best of 2:14 to qualify for the ECAC Championships. Freshman Ari Garber (North Falmouth, MA) also contributed with a 26-second personal best in the 3k finishing second with a 9:51.25. Senior sprinter Nicole Burns (Newburgh, NY) suffered from a leg cramp during the 400m dash, but showed her strength and composure as she held strong for second place with a 55.32. Sophomore Lucy Higgins followed right behind with a strong third place finish with a 58.18.
Another notable performance for the Bears was turned in by sophomore Michaeline Nelson (McLean, VA), who posted a time of 5:00.54 in the one-mile run to come in second. Brown will compete on Sunday at the USATF New England at Harvard, and will then get ready for the Ivy League Heptagonal Championships at Yale the following weekend.
