New Haven, CT - The Brown women's track & field team finished off competition at the Giegengack Invitational hosted by Yale University on Saturday afternoon with many strong performances. While the meet was not scored, Brown turned in solid times, which included 10 Bears finishing in the top three of their respective events.
Earning titles over the weekend was junior Danielle Grunloh (Effingham, IL) in the shot put with a stellar 14.06m toss, sophomore Samantha Adelberg (Washington, DC) in the 1,000m run with a time of 2.48.48, and senior Nicole Burns (Newburgh, NY) in the 200m dash with an ECAC qualifying time of 24.95.
The Bears also earned a plethora of second-place finishes, as sophomore Brynn Smith (Saco, ME) finished with a 13.89m throw in the shot put, Susan Scavone earned a time of 8.97 in the 60-meter hurdles, sophomore Lucy Higgins (Jeffersonville, VT) turned in a 1:16.18 in the 500m dash and junior Anja Hergrueter (Newton, MA) posted a 1.60m in the high jump.
Brown locked up first through third place finishes in the 1,000m run. Adelberg secured the winning time and was followed by sophomore Kesley Ramsey (Franklin Lakes, NJ) with a 2:50.45 for second and freshman Roseanne Fleming (Westlake Village, CA) with a 2:50.97 for third.
In the 800m run, Brown's Bridget Black was the team's top finisher with a 2:16.62 for third place. Earning fourth place finishes for the Bears was Burns with a 7.85 in the 60m dash, and freshman Ari Garber (North Falmouth, MA) with a 5:01.09 in the one-mile run. Brown's 4x400m "A" relay also finished in fourth, turning in a time of 3:54.83. Brown's "B" relay came in right behind with a 4:04.18 to earn sixth place.
The Bears are back in action on Saturday, Feb. 14, when the squad heads to the Armory in New York.
