Women Take Second At URI's Mega Meet

Kingston, RI-- While part of the team headed down to New York this weekend, others stayed closer to home and competed in URI's Mega Meet on Saturday. The women's team placed second behind URI in the six-team meet with a point total of 183.5.
Junior Lauren Hale (Warren, RI) won both the 55m (7.35) and the 200m (25.70). Juniors Cheryl Scott (Atco, NJ) and Laura Snizek (Vermontville, NY) went two-three in the 400m. Junior Natasha Barret (Miami, FL) was fifth. Freshman Dianna Anderson (Verona, NJ) placed second in the 55mH with a time of 8.71 seconds. Junior Brooke Wolfe (Perkasie, NY) was third.
Sophomore Smita Gupta (Tulsa, OK) won the 1000m in 2:58.87, and was closely followed by classmate Becky Crossin (Annandale, NJ) in second. Sophomore Alex Brown (Kingston, NY) won the 3000m in 10:24.41.
Junior Allison Brager (Youngstown, OH) was second in the pole vault (3.36m) and freshman Daniela Ponte (Torrington, CT) was third (3.21m). Freshman Julia Chiang (Piedmont, CA) leaped to second in the long jump (5.24m), followed by classmate Kat D'Auria (Norwich, CT) in third (5.09m).
The Bears' relay teams also fared well, as they won both the 4x400m and the distance medley.
The team will next compete at Boston University's St. Valentine's Invitational on February 10 and 11.
