The women's track team competed at the URI Invitational this weekend, where they took second in an exciting team race with home team URI despite sending several top athletes to New York to compete in the Armory Invitational. It came down to the final relay, and in the end, URI edged Brown by only 2.3 points in the team score. Brown's score was boosted in events around the field, including several individual wins.<
Brown swept the throw events, as senior co-captain Jill Lynch (Racine, WI) took home the win in the shot put with a mark of 42'08". Sophomore Laura Dudek (West Warren, MA) took second with 38'05". Senior Jennifer Donahue (Winter Park, FL) took top collegiate points in the weight throw with a top throw of 50'11".
The Bears had another 1-2 finish in the high jump. Senior Ashley Wall (Ellicott City, MD) continued her success with a victory in the high jump at 5'5". Junior Erin Meschter (Danville, PA) cleared 5'3" for second. Junior Janea Russ (El Cajon, CA) won the pole vault with an ECAC qualifying height of 11'9.75". Frosh Tiffany Chang (Lafayette, CA) and sophomore Allison Brager (Youngstown, OH) tied for third at 11'3.75", a personal best for Brager.
Fara Kitton (Bellmore, NY) took top honors in the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 8.38 in the finals.
Senior co-captain Kelly Powell (East Patchogue, NY) won the 800-meter run by a margin of over 2 seconds with a final time of 2:16.86.
Sophomores Michol Monaghan (Uniontown, PA) and Kathleen Loughlin (Portland, OR) each garnered runner-up points in the distance events. Monaghan was clocked at 5:07.88 in the mile and Loughlin crossed the line in 10:48.52 for the 3,000-meter run.
The Bears will return to action Friday and Saturday when they travel to Boston to compete in the Fast Track Invitational.
