Cambridge, MA-- The women's track & field team traveled to Cambridge this weekend to compete in the annual Brown-Cornell-Harvard tri-meet, hosted by Harvard. The Bears placed second with 41 points. Highlighting the meet for the Bears were some strong early season performances, including a new school record in the triple jump, set by senior co-captain Brittany Grovey (Hobbs, NM). Grovey won the triple jump with a leap of 12.88m, and also placed second in the long jump (5.78m).
Sophomore Akilah King (Medford, MA) won the 200m by more than half a second, with a time of 25.05, which puts her in seventh on Brown's Top Ten all-time indoor list. Also scoring in the 200m was junior Lauren Hale (Warren, RI), who placed fourth. Hale also took fourth in the 60m dash with a time of 7.95 seconds.
Senior Anna Willard (Greenwood, ME) placed second in the mile, less than one second behind Harvard's Lindsey Scherf, with a time of 4:50.41. Willard's time currently places her fifth on the all-time indoor list.
In the 3000m, junior Michol Monaghan (Uniontown, PA) placed third with a time of 10:10.58.
The Bears won the 4x800m relay over Cornell in a time of 9:12.46, and were second in the mile relay.
Senior Erin Meschter (Danville, PA) took third in the high jump (1.70m). Sophomore Tiffany Chang (Lafayette, CA) tied for second in the pole vault (3.35m). Sophomore Chelsea McCarron (Georgetown, MA) was third in the shot put (12.43m).
The Bears will return to action next weekend on February 3-4 at the Collegiate Invitational held in New York City at the Armory.
