Women's Indoor Track Wins New England Challenge Cup

Providence, RI - The Brown women's indoor track team took first place at the Women's New England Challenge Cup on Saturday at Brown University. The Bears finished the day with a score of 213. The University of Rhode Island took second with a score of 199.5 while the University of Maine rounded out the top three with a score of 94. Brown had 26 top five finishers as well as two first place team relay finishes. The meet was the Bears first team scoring meet of the season.

Brown captured the top three spots in the 55 meter high hurdles. Sophomore Fara Kitton (Belmore, NY) took first place with a time of 8.42. Senior Kim Fogarty (Cortlandt Manor, NY) placed second with a time of 8.63 while junior Katie Rowinski (Wakefield, RI) took third with a time of 8.89.

Sophomore Jaylon White (Minneapolis, MN) placed second in the 55 meter dash with a time of 7.40 while junior Lauren Linder (Rocky Hill, CT) placed fifth with a time of 7.50.

Freshman Anna Willard came in second in the mile with a time of 5:05.03. Junior Caci Cambruzzi (Cincinnati, OH) took fifth place with a time of 5:15.75 and sophomore Julia Komosinski placed seventh with a time of 5:24.16 in the same event.

In the 400 meters, freshman Monica Viola (Washington, DC) was the top Brown finisher, placing fourth with a time of 1:02.09. Senior Barbara Schreck (Montville, NJ) took eighth with a time of 1:04.36.

Freshman Kelly Powell (East Patchogue, NY) placed second while junior Melissa Tremblay (Salem, MA) took third in the 500 meters with times of 1:19.16 and 1:19.96 respectively.

Junior Julia Devanthery (Cambridge, MA) placed third in the 800 meters with a time of 2:21.67.

Junior Kate Cushing (Cranston, RI) took second in the 1,000 meters with a time of 2:59.39 while freshman Annie Hatch (Tacoma, WA) placed fifth with a time of 3:04.08.

In the 200 meters, junior Emily McElveen (Chapel Hill, NC) took second with a time of 26.21. White placed third with a time of 26.40 and Linder took fourth with a time of 26.70. Viola placed 14th with a time of 27.81.

Freshman Nora Sullivan (Cambridge, MA) placed second in the 3,000 meters with a time of 10:10.03. Senior Rosie Woodford (Peace Dale, RI) placed sixth with a time of 10:43.74.

Freshman Jennifer Li (Chemsford, MA) placed second in the pole vault, clearing 3.04 meters.

In the women's shot put, sophomore Jill Lynch (Racine, WI) placed fourth with a throw of 12.36 meters, Capehart took 11th with a throw of 9.09 meters.

Junior Rachel Seibolt (Manchester, NH) placed fourth in the weight throw with a distance of 14.50 meters. Sophomore Jen Donahue took ninth with a throw of 12.64 meters.

In the high jump, sophomore Ashley Wall (Ellicott City, MD) placed second, clearing 1.72 meters. Freshman Erin Meschter (Danville,, PA) placed fifth, clearing 1.57 meters.

Brown dominated the women's long jump with three of the top five distances. Fogarty and sophomore Ashley Wall tied for second with a leap of 5.21 meters Freshman Emily Capehart (Bangor, ME) placed third with a distance of 5.09 meters. Sophomore Alexis Hall (Galveston, TX) took seventh with a leap of 4.80 meters.

Freshman Brittany Grovey (Hobbs, NM) won the triple jump with a leap of 11.98 meters. Domonique Bosa-Edwards (Las Vegas, NV) took third with a distance of 10.78 meters. Senior Erin Gerrard (Lincoln, NE) placed seventh with a leap pf 10.16 meters.

Brown took second in the 4x400 meter relay with a time of 4:04.29. In the distance medley, Brown captured the top spot with a time of 12:19.29. In the 4x200 relay, the Bears also took first with a time of 1:47.26.

The Bears continue action on Friday Jan. 24 at the Terrier Classic.
