BOSTON – Four Bears posted top-10 finishes and the women's distance medley relay team placed second overall as the Brown University men's and women's indoor track & field teams competed at the Boston University David Hemery Valentine Invitational over the weekend.
On the men's side, sophomore Ned Willig (Phoenixville, Pa.) placed 10th overall out of 235 runners in the 800 meters, as he crossed the finish line in a time of 1:50.04 to qualify for the IC4A championships. Willig's time is second fastest in the Ivy League this season and a top-10 mark in program history. Junior Henry Tufnell (Cirencester, England) and senior Matthew Bevil (Mary Esther, Fla.) also posted top-10 program finishes at 12th and 14th, respectively, in IC4A-qualifying times of 1:50.29 and 1:50.41.
Senior Jeffrey Bush (Westborough, Mass.) took eighth in the 5,000 meters and qualified for the IC4A Championships in a time of 14:20.95 to post a top-10 program result, while junior Mark McGurrin (Manlius, N.Y.) placed 15th in an IC4A-qualifying time of 14:28.58.
Junior Jordan Mann (St. Louis, Mo.) finished 16th overall in the 3,000 meters with an IC4A-qualifying time of 8:14.80.
In the field, junior Courtland Clavette (Asheville, N.C.) claimed sixth in the shot put with an IC4A-qualifying toss of 54-01.25, while senior Evan Weinstock (Las Vegas, Nev.) placed eighth in the long jump with a leap of 22-05.25.
On the women's side, the Bears' distance medley relay team of Kate DeSimone (Fort Wayne, Ind.), Taylor Worthy (Medfield, Mass.), Alexandra Stanton (Medfield, Mass.) and Lucy Van Kleunen (Philadelphia, Pa.) finished runner-up in a time of 11:49.98.
DeSimone also finished 13th in the mile with a time of 4:49.45, while senior Sasha Teninty (Eugene, Ore.) took 15th in the 800 meters at 2:10.65.
The Bears return to action on Saturday, Feb. 15 when they host the Brown Invitational.
