Brown Shines at Track and Field Competitions in Boston
BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS – The Brown women's track and field program had a busy day on Friday, with part of the team competing in the Joe Donahue Games at the Reggie Lewis Center and the rest of the squad facing the competition at the Terrier Invitational at Boston University.
At the Terrier Invitational, sophomore Alex Stanton (Medfield, MA) started off the day's running events, claiming ninth place in the 400 meter dash with a time of 56.3. Sophomore Efe Cudjoe (Fort Meyers, FL) placed 38th, crossing the line in 59.3.
In the women's mile, senior Bree Shugarts (Lewistown, PA) took sixth place amongst a tough field of runners, finishing in 4:53.6. For the 800m run, junior Sasha Teninty (Eugene, OR) clocked in at 2:14.5 to place 11th overall and senior Tess Plant-Thomas (La Jolla, CA) placed 20th with a time of 2:16.2
Olivia Mickle (Sacramento, CA), Leah Eickhoff (Hanover, NH), and Alexandra Conway (Manchester, NH), all competing in the 3000m run, also showed solid performances. Mickle led the way, placing 8th with a time of 9:41, Eickhoff crossed just under the ten minute mark at 9:59 and Conway finished in 10:03 for the distance.
At the Reggie Lewis Center, freshman Emmaline Suchland (Seattle, WA) placed 4th in the 60m dash to open up the events for the Bears. In the mile run, Lily Harrington (West Hartford, CT) debuted with a performance of 5:06, good for second place. Harrington was followed closely by Elaine Kuckertz (Chicago, IL) who finished in third with a time of 5:08.
In the field events, Brown placed two women in the top four in the high jump, with Jocelyn West (Fort Mohave, AZ) clearing 1.65m and Morayo Akande (Robinson, IL) clearing 1.60m. In the pole vault, Hannah Wallace (Whitefish Bay, WI) tied for third place, jumping 3.50m. Additionally, with a jump of 11.10m, freshman Taylor Williams (New York, NY) placed fourth in the triple jump.
The women's throws were led by Lacey Craker (Baraboo, WI) who won the weight throw with a toss of 17.55m. Victoria Buhr (Riggsville, MI) and Kebbeh Darpolor (Pecos, TX) competed in the shot put, finishing in third and fifth places respectively.
The Brown women's track and field team returns the full squad to competition on February 2 at the Tribute Meet at URI.
