Throwers Compete at “Corsair” Classic Track & Field Invitational
Dartmouth, MA- A few members of the Brown University throws squad competed at the Corsair Classic Track & Field Invitational hosted at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth over the weekend.
Junior Lacey Craker brought home the discus title with a 141-10 throw, as well as the hammer throw title with a dominating 172-04 distance. Eason competed in the discus and tossed a 116-05 for fourth and Vermillion finished in second in the hammer throw (149-02).
"The javelin throwers did very well with the entire group throwing right at or actually setting new personal records," said Director of Track & Field Michelle Eisenreich. "It was a really good day."
On the men's side, junior Daniel Smith won the shot put with a 52-06.50, while freshman Andrew Rohan recorded a fifth place distance of 46-04.00. Also competing was freshman Matt Miller, who placed seventh with a 45-03.75.
Smith came in second place in the discus throw with a 147-08, finishing behind former Brown University athlete Bryan Powlen '10. Courtland Clavette earned fourth (141-00), while Miller finished sixth (137-00) and Rohan placed eighth (135-02).
Sophomore Nick Keeling finished second in the javelin throw with a 198-07, as he finished behind former Brown University NCAA javelin throw champion Craig Kinsley '11. Junior Mike Bieszard came in fourth (186-10) and Buddy Yow in fifth (182-07). Sophomore Neil Rooney also competed for the Bears, coming in at ninth with a 158-09.
Both the men's and women's team came in fifth place in the team rankings. The women totaled 69 points and the men tallied 59.50.
