Women's Track & Field Starts Outdoor Season at Husky Spring Open
Boston, MA- The Brown women’s track & field team had several solid performances to kick-off the outdoor season today during the Husky Spring Open at Northeastern.
Brown’s spring squad opened up the season with several tactically sound races. Brielle Beaudette won the 400m dash in 58.99 seconds, followed by Thelma Breezeatl in second place with a 59.19.
Samantha Adelberg and Lucy Higgins pushed each other to run a very solid 800m race, finishing first and second. Adelberg crossed the finish line in 2:15.72, while Higgins recorded a 2:17.80.
Winning by nearly 150-meters, the women’s 4x400m relay team comprised of Breezeatl, Jasmine Chukwueke, Adelberg and Higgins ran a very strong race. The squad earned a time of 3:53.85.
Also having great performances today was Susan Scavone, who finished in second place with a time of 14.17 in the 100 hurdles,
The throws squad started the outdoor season strong, throwing marks that places them well ahead of where they were last year at this time, which is a great sign of things to come for the Bears.
Danielle Grunloh earned the shot put title with a 14.94m toss, while Brynn Smith followed right behind in second place with a throw of 14.09m. Smith garnered the hammer throw title with a 55.08m mark, and Katherine Wood finished in fifth place in the javelin throw with a 36.45m.
While the upperclassman led the way in the throwing events,, freshman Lacey Craker debuted her outdoor career with a solid sixth place finish in the hammer throw (47.05).
The Bears will travel to the University of Connecticut on April 3 to compete at the UConn Invitational.
