Womens Track & Field Earns Fourth Place at Armory

The Brown University women's track & field team did a fantastic job competing at the Armory this past weekend. The Bears finished in fourth overall with a score of 72.60, finishing behind Maryland (121.60), Columbia (110) and Virginia (107.33). Highlighting the meet was Ariel Wright's 3,000-meter time, which did not only earn the title, but also places her fourth overall in Brown's all-time Top 10 list.
Senior Ariel Wright (Oakland, CA) recorded a time of 9:35.64 in the 3,000m to earn first place, and Brown junior Lauren Pischel (La Jollca, CA) had a personal record of 9:49.78. Sophomore Ari Garber (North Falmouth, MA) also had a strong finish in the event, recording a 9:53.55 for fifth place.
In the 800m run, sophomore Rosie Fleming (Westlake Village, CA) locked up seventh place with a time of 2:13.73, followed by freshman teammate Bree Shugarts (Lewistown, PA) in eighth with a 2:13.75. Junior Kesley Ramsey (Franklin Lakes, NJ) earned fifth place in the one-mile run with a 4:54.79, and junior Megan Fitzpatrick (Hopewell Valley, NJ) came in 12th with a 5:03.71.
Brown sophomore Susan Scavone (Summit, NJ) earned seventh place in the 60m hurdles with a 9.05, and junior Lucy Higgins (Jeffersonville, VT) garnered ninth place in the 400m run with a 56.76. Brown's distance medley relay squad comprised of Shugarts, junior Brielle Beaudette (Agawam, MA), Fleming and Ramsey earned second place with a time of 11:56.32.
In the field events, senior Anja Hergrueter (Newton, MA) led Brown with a third-place finish with a 1.65m leap. Following behind was junior Grace Watson (Belmont, MA) with a 1.60m jump for seventh. Freshman Gabriella Baiter (Greenlawn, NY) earned second place in the triple jump with a 12.33m leap, while senior Shannon Stone (Mont Vernon, NH) placed fifth with an 11.70m jump. In the shot put, junior Brynn Smith (Saco, ME) garnered third place with a 14.98m toss, and senior Danielle Grunloh (Effingham, IL) followed in fourth (14.96m) and freshman Victoria Buhr (Cheboygan, MI) ended in fifth with a 13.16m throw.
The Bears will now prepare for the USATF at Harvard on Feb. 21 and then will have the Ivy League Heptagonal Championships at Dartmouth Feb. 27-28.
