Womens Track & Field Competes at Harvard Select Meet

Boston, MA - The Brown women's track & field team competed at the Paul Turner Select Meet in the Gordon Track Center at Harvard University on Saturday afternoon. The Bears held out several distance runners and their entire jumps squad, but saw positive results elsewhere as the teams gears up for the upcoming meets. The women placed second to Harvard (67) with a total of 54 points.
Junior Brynn Smith did an outstanding job and earned two titles in both the shot put and the weight throw for the Bears. Smith tossed 14.97m in the shot put to earn first, as Danielle Grunloh followed right behind with a 14.56m throw for second and Victoria Buhr came in third with a 13.38m mark. In the weight throw, Smith posted a 16.28m for first, followed by Lacey Craker in third with a 13.34m toss.
Michaeline Nelson earned another title for Brown in the one-mile run as she recorded a 5:03.24, followed by Bree Shugarts in second (5:05.25) and Rosie Fleming (5:07.17). Samantha Adelberg posted a sixth place time of 5:23.67. Susan Scavone earned the 60m hurdle title with a time of 8.99, and Jasmine Chukwueke earned first in the 400m dash with a 57.13. Lucy Higgins placed third in the 400m dash with a 57.53.
Freshman Olivia Thomas earned the top finish in the 800m run with a solid 2:17.82, as freshman Carolyn Ranti came in fourth with a 2:23.94. Higgins won the 200m dash with a 26.19, and Susan Scavone placed third (26.77) and Chukwueke placed fourth (26.79).
The men's and women's team will now compete at the Terrier Invitational at Boston University on January 30th.
