Bears Turn in Great Performances at NCAA Championship
Fayetteville, AR - Sophomore Brynn Smith (Saco, ME), senior
Bryan Powlen (Kewanna, IN) and sophomore Craig Kinsley (Fairfield,
CT) have done an outstanding job competing at the 2009 Outdoor
Track & Field NCAA Championship this week. Smith and
Powlen finished ranking in the top 20 in the Nation, as Kinsley is
still alive in the tournament and will be competing in the javelin
finals tonight at 7:30 p.m.
Smith entered the week seeded 27th, and ended up
finished 20th in the nation in the hammer throw. Smith missed
the cut to compete in the finals, but had a great performance in
the preliminaries for an 18th place finish with a
183-02. In addition, Powlen, who was seeded 26th, ended
up 18th overall in the nation in the discus with a throw of 179-02.
Kinsley went into NCAAs as the fourth seed and
finished in third place overall to make the javelin finals at 7:30
p.m. tonight. Kinsley's exceptional throw of 227-07 landed
him in third place, just behind first place finisher Corey White of
Southern California (254-10) and Chris Hill of Georgia
(234-04). Kinsley will be aiming to finish amongst the
top eight during finals this evening, which will earn him
All-American honors.
