PROVIDENCE, RI - The Brown women's tennis team hosted a Brown Classic, October 28-October 30 and competed against Boston College and Yale in a series of hidden-dual matches. The Bears posted some strong results, including earning four wins in the top six singles matches against Yale.
Against Boston College, the Bears dropped both doubles matches, but earned wins in all four singles as junior Daisy Ames (Atlanta, GA) won 6-1, 6-1, junior Amanda Saiontz (Miami, FL) won 6-3, 6-0, sophomore Ashley Pariser (Alexandria, VA) won 6-3, 6-0, and junior Kara Zeder (Miami, FL) won 6-2, 6-4.
In a mixed match with Brown and BC combining against Yale, the Bears were defeated again in doubles action. In singles action, Brown's lone win came at #7 where freshman Alexa Baggio (Coopersburg, PA) earned a 6-1, 6-4 victory.
On Sunday, Brown faced Yale and went out on top, earning two doubles wins and six singles wins. At #2 doubles, Ames and Saiontz posted an 8-6 win, and at #4 doubles, freshmen Sara Mansur (Houston, TX) and Brett Finkelstein (North Caldwell, NJ) earned an 8-5 win.
In singles action, the Bears dropped matches at #1 and #3, but win at every other position, including Saiontz's 6-3, 6-3 win at #2. Mansur picked up a 6-2, 2-6, 1-0 (11-9) win at #4, while Zeder earned a 6-1, 5-7, 1-0 (10-3) win at #5. At #6, it was Baggio winning, 2-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-4), and at #7, it was Finkelstein winning, 6-3, 6-3. Sophomore Meredith Woodhouse (Wayzata, MN) rounded out the day with a 7-5, 6-2 win at #8.
