Several Bears Advance on First Day of Dartmouth Invitational

HANOVER, NH - The Brown women's tennis team is in action at its last competition of the fall season at the Dartmouth Invitational and several Bears have advanced in their respective brackets.
In the "A" singles bracket, #2 senior Alex Arlak (Leonia, NJ) defeated her first opponent 2-6, 6-0, 11-9, after a first round bye. She will face the fifth-seed in the bracket on Sunday. #7 sophomore Amanda Saiontz (Miami, FL) also advanced after a first round bye with a 4-6, 6-3. 11-9 victory over her opponent. Sophomore Michelle Pautler (Kamuela, HI) won her first match in straight sets, 6-1, 7-6, and then defeated the #8 seed, 6-7 (4), 6-3, 12-10. She will face the #3 seed on Sunday. Sophomore Daisy Ames (Atlanta, GA) won her first match, 6-3, 7-5, before falling to the #1 seed in the bracket, 6-3, 6-2.
In the "B" singles bracket, all three Bears will play on Sunday. After a first round bye, freshman Kelley Kirkpatrick (Villanova, PA) defeated her opponent 6-0, 6-1. She will face the #1 seed on Sunday. Freshman Meredith Woodhouse (Wayzata, MN) also had a first round bye before defeating her opponent, 6-1, 6-2. Freshman Anita Ivancevic (Delray Beach, FL) won both of her matches, winning 6-2, 7-5 in teh frist one and 6-7 (4), 6-2, 10-2 in the second.
In doubles action, two Brown pairs have advanced in the bracket, including the #2 pair of Pautler and Saiontz. They rolled over their competition, winning 8-1 in their only match. The #5 pair of Ames and Arlak also won easily, defeating their competition, 8-0. They will face the #3 seed on Sunday. The duo of Woodhouse and Ivancevic and the duo of Kirkpatrick and freshman Ashley Pariser (Alexandria, VA) lost their only matches of the invitational.
