PHILADELPHIA, PA - Brown sophomore Bianca Aboubakare (Orange, CA) won three more singles matches in a span of two days, advancing to the ITA Regional singles finals, and qualifying for the ITA National Indoors in the process. Aboubakare earned two victories on Monday to advance to Tuesday's semifinal and then won that match to move onto the finals against William & Mary's Ragini Acharya, whom she fell to, 6-0, 6-2. As regional finalists, both Aboubakare and Acharya have qualified for the National Indoors, which will be held in Charlottesville, VA in two weeks.
After winning two matches to advance to the round of 16, Aboubakare earned a 7-5, 6-4 over Richmond's Pamela Duran, seeded 10th, to move onto the quarterfinals. There, she faced 2nd-seeded Kat Zoricic of William & Mary and picked up a 3-6, 6-4, 7-5 victory to advance to this morning's semifinals. In her semifinal match, Aboubakare faced BC's Lauren Cash, who entered unseeded, but had upset the 17th, 11th, 4th, and fifth seeds en route to the semifinals. Aboubakare came out victorious with a 6-2, 2-6, 6-4 win, setting up her appearance in the finals.
Also on Monday, Aboubakare and her younger sister, freshman Carissa Aboubakare (Orange, CA) competed in the doubles quarterfinals, where they were defeated by Denise Harijanto and Diana Popescu of Buffalo, 8-6.
