Women's Tennis Concludes 2003 Brown Invitational Tournament

Providence, RI- The Women's Tennis team had a tough time this weekend at the Brown Invitational Tournament. Long days of play due to stormy providence whether made the annual event an exhausting affair, while losses in the early rounds set the bears back in tournament play. Yet, the Bears show grit and determination in the final rounds of consolation play to end the weekend on a high note.

Teams from Brown placed in the top five of the two highest doubles brackets. Junior Kerry Meath (St. Paul, MN) and partner, sophomore Kim Singer (Newport Beach, CA) played to fourth place in the Flight "A" Doubles. Their senior teammate Victoria Beck (Wellington, New Zealand) and junior Alex Arlak (Leonia, NJ) teamed up in the consolation draw of Flight "B" Doubles, beating an opponent from Syracuse 8-3.

Freshman Daisy Ames (Atlanta. GA) and Arlak also represented the Bears well in singles play, competing against each other for the third and fourth places of the Flight "B" Singles. Arlak beat Ames 6-3, 6-1 on Sunday, placing well in a bracket whose top four spots all went to Ivy League players.

The Bears continue action October 10, 2003 at the ECAC Tournament.
