NEW YORK, NY - The Brown women's tennis team (5-11, 1-3) picked up its first Ivy win of the season, defeating Columbia, 4-3, on Saturday afternoon in New York. Brown won the doubles point with wins at all three positions and earned victories at the bottom three singles positions for the 4-3 victory.
Sophomores Kelley Kirkpatrick (Villanova, PA) and Ashley Pariser (Alexandria, VA) led off with an 8-5 win at #1 doubles, while juniors Michelle Pautler (Kamuela, HI) and Amanda Saiontz (Miami, FL) won at #2 doubles, also 8-5. Junior Daisy Ames (Atlanta, GA) and freshman Brett Finkelstein (North Caldwell, NJ) earned the other win, 8-6, at #3 doubles.
Finkelstein gave Brown a 2-0 lead with a 6-1, 6-4 win at #4 singles, while freshman Sara Mansur (Houston, TX) increased the Bears' lead to 3-0 with a 6-2, 6-3 victory at #5. Columbia came to within one with wins at #2 and #3 and then earned a three-set win at #1 to tie the match, 3-3.
Pautler clinched the match with her victory at #6 singles in three sets, 3-6, 6-2, 6-4.
The Bears return to action, Friday, April 21st, when they host Dartmouth at 3:00 p.m. in their final home match of the season.
