Bears Defeat Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, 4-3

SAN LUIS OBISPO, CA - The Brown women's tennis team (8-4) won its third straight match on Thursday afternoon with a 4-3 victory over Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. Sophomore Amanda Saiontz (Miami, FL) helps to lead the Bears with wins at #3 doubles and #1 singles.

The Mustangs won the doubles point as Saiontz and classmate Michelle Pautler (Kamuela, HI) earned the lone doubles win for Brown, taking an 8-5 decision at #3.

However, Brown won four of the six singles matches to earn the victory, earning three of the wins in three sets.

Saiontz started off with a 2-6, 6-2, 7-6 (9) win at #1, while senior Alex Arlak (Leonia, NJ) picked up a 3-6, 7-6 (8), 6-4 victory at #2. Freshman Anita Ivancevic (Delray Beach, FL) posted a 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 win at #4. Freshman Ashley Pariser (Alexandria, VA) improved to 8-1 in singles action with a 6-0, 6-1 win at #5 for the victory.

The Bears continue action tomorrow when they face UC Santa Barbara at 4:30 p.m. EST. It is their final match before the start of the Ivy season.
