Bears Defeat Portland in Second Match of UC Irvine Invitational

The Brown women's tennis team (8-3) picked up a hard-fought 5-2 win over Portland in its second match of the UC Irvine Invitational on Monday, March 29. The Bears fell behind early, dropping all three doubles matches as Portland claimed the 1-0 lead. However, Brown took five of the six singles matches, winning three of them in three sets, for the final 5-2.

At #1 singles, junior Alex Arlak (Leonia, NJ) came away with a 7-6, 1-6, 6-3 win, while senior Victoria Beck (Wellington, New Zealand) earned a 4-6, 6-1, 7-6 (3) win at #3.

Freshman Amanda Saiontz (Miami, FL) was victorious at #4 singles, winning 3-6, 6-2, 6-3, while freshman Daisy Ames (Atlanta, GA) won at #5 singles, 7-5, 6-3. Freshman Michelle Pautler earned Brown's fifith point, winning at #6 singles, 6-4, 6-2.

The Bears continue action at the UC Irvine Tournament on Tuesday, March 30, when they face host UC Irvine, which is currently ranked #75 in the country.
