March 28, 2002

The women's tennis team dropped a close, 4-3 decision, to The University of Memphis on Wednesday afternoon. The loss snapped Brown's nine-game winning streak, dating back to the fall, and was just the second loss for the Bears this season.

Freshman Kerry Meath and junior Caroline Casey led the Bears. The duo combined for an 8-4 win at #3 doubles, and each won their singles contests. Meath, who is now 19-1 in singles action, won at #4 (6-1, 6-1), while Casey won at #5 (6-0, 6-0). She is now 14-6 in singles this season.

Junior co-captain Maria Elena del Valle won the other singles match for Brown, winning at #6 (6-1, 6-0).

Brown, currently ranked #58 by the ITA, continues action on Thursday, March 28, when they face Alabama Birmingham. The match is the Bears' final contest in Bermuda and final non-conference match, as they begin Ivy League competition on April 5 against Princeton.
