The women's tennis team improved to 4-1 with a 7-0 victory over UMass on Saturday afternoon, winning all six singles matches in straight sets and losing just one match, at #3 doubles.
Sophomores Kerry Meath (St. Paul, MN) and Alex Arlak (Leonia, NJ) led the Bears along with freshman Kimberly Singer (Newport Beach, CA). Meath and Arlak combined for an 8-5 win at #1 doubles, while Singer paired up with freshman Mariana Lee (Honolulu, HI) for an 8-5 victory at #2 doubles as Brown claimed the doubles point and headed into the singles matches leading 1-0.
In singles action, Meath took a 6-3, 6-2 decision at #2, while Arlak was perfect at #4, winning every point, and defeating her opponent, 6-0, 6-0. Singer picked up a 6-1, 6-2 victory at #5 singles, while freshman Yelena Klurfeld (Brooklyn, NY) won at # (6-2, 6-3), freshman Stephanie Falconi (New York, NY) at #3 (6-1, 6-2), and junior Bridget Barbera (Pelham, NY) at #6 (6-4, 6-2) to round out the competition.
Brown continues action tomorrow, Sunday, February 23, against Temple. The match begins at 12:00 noon in the Pizzitola Center.
