"Quick Hands" describes junior Alex Arlak, who came to Brown ranked #94 nationally and #4 in the East in the Girl's 18's. In the year 2000, the Eastern Tennis Association awarded her the Girl's 18's Sportsmanship Award. At Leonia High School, where she played #1 singles, she was team MVP, while earning All-State, All-County, and All-League honors. She also led her team to the New Jersey State Sectional Championships. In her freshman year at Brown, Arlak competed at the #3 singles, and #1 doubles positions, where she achieved an overall record of 19-11 in singles, and 13-15 in doubles. She and her partner, Victoria Beck, finished with a 3-4 record in the Ivies, receiving Second Team All-Ivy recognition. The highlight of Alex's 2002 fall season was finishing as a quarter-finalist in doubles at the ITA Eastern Regional with partner Kerry Meath. In the fall of 2003, Arlak finished the season with a 6-4 singles record and a 4-3 doubles mark. Alex's volley skills and solid baseline play will be an asset to the Brown tennis program for years to come.
