Women’s Tennis Finishes Play at ITA Northeast Regionals

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Brown women's tennis team closed out play at the ITA Northeast Regionals hosted by Penn on Saturday. The tournament started on Wednesday, Oct. 18 with qualifying matches at the Hecht and Hamlin Tennis Centers.

For the opening day for the Bears on Thursday, both senior Alyza Benotto (Los Angeles, Calif.) and sophomore Devon Jack (San Marino, Calif.) advanced in singles with a first round bye. Senior Maddie Stearns (Short Hills, N.J.) and junior Taylor Cosme (New Hyde Park, N.Y.) won their first matches, with Stearns posting a 7-6 (4), 6-4 victory, and Cosme winning 6-3, 6-3.

On day two, Jack advanced to the round of 32 with a 6-1, 6-3 win but fell in her next match, 4-6, 6-2, 6-2.

For doubles action in the tournament, Benotto and Jack teamed up and easily won their opening match, 8-1. Cosme and Stearns also won their first doubles match (8-6) but were defeated by the same score in their second match. Benotto and Jack continued to advance with an 8-5 showing on Friday. On Saturday, the duo was clipped 8-5 in their match to reach the semifinals. 

The Bears next host the Brown Classic and welcome Arkansas, Boston College, Denver and Utah to Providence. The tournament will run from Friday, Nov. 3 to Sunday, Nov. 5.
