No. 61 Women’s Tennis Upends No. 49 Boston College, 5-2

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The No. 61 Brown women's tennis team defeated No. 49 Boston College on Tuesday at the Pizzitola Sports Center. The win marks the Bears' second victory this season over a ranked team, having defeated No. 68 Portland on Sunday.

Brown claimed the doubles point with junior Dayna Lord (Bloomfield, Conn.) and sophomore Alyza Benotto (Los Angeles, Calif,) pulling in a convincing 6-2 win. Sophomore Maddie Stearns (Short Hills, N.J.) and senior Ammu Mandalap (Princeton Junction, N.J.) posted the second doubles win for the point with a score of 6-4.

The doubles victors continued their winning ways in singles play, starting off with Lord winning first singles by outlasting her opponent 6-3, 4-6, 6-4. After a first set loss (3-6), Benotto came back to win second singles 6-4, 6-2. Stearns took home a win in the fourth singles spot with a score of 6-7, 6-4, 6-1. Junior Mariska Chamdani (Santa Clara, Calif.) recorded the Bears' last singles win to further seal the victory, 6-4, 7-5.

The Bears will next compete on Saturday, February 20 in matches against Ocean State foes Rhode Island (9:00 a.m.), Providence College (11:30 a.m.) and Bryant (2:00 p.m.) at the Pizzitola Sports Center.
