No. 61 Women’s Tennis Defeats No. 68 Portland, 4-3

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The No. 61 Brown women's tennis team defeated No. 68 Portland, 4-3, on Sunday at the Pizzitola Sports Center. The Bears split singles, 3-3, and won the contest by winning two doubles matches.

The Bears won the doubles point with junior Dayna Lord (Bloomfield, Conn.) and Alyza Benotto (Los Angeles, Calif.) starting the squad off in first doubles with a convincing 6-1 win. Senior Hannah Camhi (Woodbury, N.Y.) and freshman Katie Ta (MissionViejo, Calif.) won second doubles by a score of 6-4 to give Brown the point.

In singles play, Camhi came from behind and won third singles, 1-6 6-4 6-3. Sophomore Maddie Stearns (Short Hills, N.J.) followed in the fourth singles spot with a 7-5, 6-4 victory. Ta rounded out the wins in singles for the Bears, with a 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 triumph. 

The Bears will compete on Tuesday Feb. 16, when they host Boston College at the Pizzitola Sports Center.
