PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown women's tennis team opened the 2014 season against No. 64 Boston College on Friday night, dropping a tough 4-3 decision to the Eagles at the Pizzitola Sports Center.

Brown freshman, Dayna Lord (Bloomfield, Conn.), continued her strong play from the fall with victories in singles and doubles play on Friday.  Lord combined with teammate Hannah Camhi (Woodbury, N.Y.) to edge the duo of Jessica Wacnik and Lexi Borr, 6-4 in doubles play.

Lord also edged Wacnik in straight sets, 7-6 (5), 7-6 (3) in singles play while Ammu Mandalap (Princeton Junction, N.J.) notched the other Brown singles win, a 6-3, 6-2 decision over Heini Salonen.

Mandalap and Ashley Noyes (Marblehead, Mass.) scored another doubles victory for the Bears as they outlasted BC's Katya Vasilyev and Wan-Yi Sweeting, 6-2.

Brown will return to action on Sunday for matches against Quinnipiac and Albany at the Pizzitola Sports Center.
