#43 Bears Defeat Buffalo, 6-1, and Providence, 4-1

PROVIDENCE, RI – The #43 Brown women's tennis team (4-1) improved to 4-1 with a pair of wins on Friday evening at the Pizzitola Center. The Bears defeated Buffalo (0-2), 6-1, and then earned a 4-1 win over cross-town rival Providence (3-2) College in a four-and-one match format (four singles and one doubles).

The Bears opened the match against Buffalo by winning the doubles point, as the team of junior Misia Krasowski (Deerfield, IL) and sophomore Ariel Caldwell (Atlanta, GA) won at #2, 8-1, and the team of freshmen Sarah Kandath (Gansevoort, NY) and Nikita Uberoi (Boca Raton, FL) won at #3, 8-2. The Bears swept the point with sophomore Jessica Harrowl (La Crescenta, CA) and senior Cassandra Herzberg (Miami Beach, FL) combining for an 8-6 win at the #1 position. 

Brown won two of the first four singles matches in straight sets, while Buffalo earned a three-set win at #1 singles to get on the board and Brown claimed a three-set win at #3. The Bears closed out the match with wins at #5 and #6. Winners for Brown included Harrow at #2 (6-2, 6-1), Kandath at #3 (6-2, 3-6, 6-4), freshman Laura Wiley (Ft. Lauderdale, FL) at #4 (6-4, 6-0), senior Julie Flanzer (Highland Park, IL) at #5 (6-1, 6-2), and Uberoi at #6 (6-0, 6-0).

Against the Friars, senior Carissa Aboubakare (Orange, CA) and freshman Emily Gelber (Scarsdale, NY) combined for an 8-0 win in the only doubles match played. Brown won at the top three singles matches with Caldwell winning at #1 (6-3, 6-3), Uberoi winning at #2 (6-2, 6-4), and Wiley at #3 (6-1, 6-0).

The Bears continue action on Saturday, February 11th, when they host Binghamton and Seton Hall in a double header beginning at 10:00 a.m.
