PROVIDENCE, RI - The Brown women's tennis team (15-8, 4-2), ranked #45 in the most recent poll, dropped its second straight 4-3 decision on Sunday afternoon, falling to #66 Harvard in Providence. The two teams split the six singles matches, with Brown winning at #3, #4, and #5, but the Crimson claimed the early doubles point with wins at #1 and #3, which would prove to be the difference in the match.
In doubles action, junior Cassandra Herzberg (Miami Beach, FL) and freshman Ariel Caldwell (Atlanta, GA) earned Brown's win, as the duo posted an 8-4 decision at #2, while improving to 5-1 in the Ivy season.
Both Herzberg and Caldwell also won in singles action, with Herzberg winning at #3 (5-7, 6-4, 6-3) and Caldwell winning at #5 (6-1, 6-1). Freshman Jessica Harrow (Los Angeles, CA) picked up Brown's third win, posting a 6-2, 6-2 decision at #4 singles, while improving to 6-0 in the Ivy League season.
Brown will close out its 2011 campaign on Saturday, April 23rd, when it hosts Yale at 12:00 noon. A Brown victory combined with a Harvard win over Dartmouth on the same day would give the Bears a share of the 2011 Ivy League Title along with Princeton, Yale, Dartmouth and Harvard.
