PRINCETON, NJ - The Brown women's tennis team (3-4) won its third straight match on Friday afternoon, defeating #71 Dartmouth, 4-3, in the first round of the 2011 ECAC Team Championship. After dropping the doubles point, the Bears, seeded fifth, won four singles matches to earn the 4-3 decision over the fourth-seeded Big Green and advance to Saturday's semifinals, which will be played against either Princeton or NJIT at 6:00 p.m.
Friday's win was clinched by senior Bianca Aboubakare (Orange, CA), who earned a 6-4, 1-6, 6-3 win at #2 singles, breaking the 3-3 tie in the match. Other winners for Brown included junior Cassandra Herzberg (Miami Beach, FL) at #3 singles (7-5, 6-2), freshman Ariel Caldwell (Atlanta, GA) at #6 (6-2, 6-3), and freshman Jessica Harrow (Los Angeles, CA) at #4 (6-1, 7-5), who was playing at the #4 position for the first time this season.
In doubles action, Herzberg and Caldwell combined to post a win at #3.
