Aboubakare & Herzberg Named All-Ivy

PROVIDENCE, RI – Brown junior Bianca Aboubakare (Orange, CA) and sophomore Cassandra Herzberg (Miami Beach, FL) have both earned All-Ivy honors in a vote by the League's eight head coaches. Aboubakare was a unanimous First Team All-Ivy selection in singles, while Herzberg earned Second Team All-Ivy honors in singles. This marks the third straight year that Aboubakare has earned First Team All-Ivy honors in singles, becoming just the 10th player in Ivy League history to earn section to the First Team for three years. Herzberg is also a repeat singles All-Ivy honoree, earning Second Team recognition for the second straight year. The duo led Brown in doubles action this year as well, winning 20 total doubles matches together, tying the school record, set last season by Emily Ellis (Fort Worth, TX) and Kathrin Sorokko (Douglaston, NY) for doubles wins in a season by a pairing

The 2007-08 Rookie of the Year, Aboubakare won seven of her final eight matches at #1 and #2 singles to finish with a 6-1 record in Ivy play and a 16-4 mark during the spring season. Overall, Aboubakare posted a 21-8 record in singles action, as one of six Brown players to win at least 20 singles matches this year. She also picked up 21 total doubles wins, which ranks 8th all-time at Brown, to finish tied for second on the team this year with 42 combined victories, a mark that stands 10th all-time at Brown. Her .667 combined winning percentage was also second on the team. Already among Brown's all-time top 10 for several season win totals, Aboubakare will enter her senior season positioned to break virtually every career record at Brown. She currently ranks third all-time with 73 singles wins, nine shy of the record, second all-time with 65 doubles wins, seven shy of the record (currently held by Ellis), and second all-time with 138 combined wins, two shy of the record.
