#65 Bears Post 5-2 Win over Columbia
NEW YORK, NY - The 65th-ranked Brown women's tennis team (14-6,
2-1) rebounded from last Saturday's loss to Princeton with a 5-2
win over Columbia (9-11, 9-4) on Friday afternoon in New York.
Brown was led by sophomore Cassandra Herzberg (Miami Beach, FL),
who claimed an 8-6 win at #2 doubles and a 6-0, 6-0 win at #2
singles.
The Lions claimed the doubles point against a modified Brown
doubles lineup, as Brown's team of Herzberg and senior Emily Ellis
(Fort Worth, TX) earned the only doubles victory for the Bears,
winning 8-6 at #2.
The Bears came out strong in singles and won three of the five
matches in straight sets in addition to a pair of three-set wins.
Junior Bianca Aboubakare (Orange, CA), who has played mostly #2
after playing #1 for the previous two years, returned to the top of
the lineup and won 6-4, 0-6, 6-2. Freshman Misia Krasowski
(Deerfield, IL) also won in three sets, posting a 6-4, 2-6, 6-5
(8-6) win at #3 singles.
In addition to Herzberg's dominating win at #2, sophomore Julie Flanzer (Highland Park, IL) earned a 7-6, 6-4 win at #4, while
junior Marisa Schonfeld (Washington, DC) posted a 6-0, 6-2 win at
#5 to account for Brown's five points.
The Bears continue action tomorrow afternoon when they face Cornell
in a 12:00 noon match in Ithaca.
