ITHACA, NY - The Brown women's tennis team (15-6, 3-1) earned its second straight win, posting a 5-2 victory over Cornell (11-9, 1-4) on Saturday afternoon in Ithaca. The Bears won the doubles point and then went on to win at the top four singles positions, including two that went three sets, to earn the victory. Illinois duo Misia Krasowski ’13 (Deerfield) and Julie Flanzer ’12 (Highland Park) helped to lead the way, as the duo won at #2 doubles and won their respective singles matches at #3 and #4, both of which were decided in three sets.
Brown's other doubles win came at #3, where senior Emily Ellis (Fort Worth, TX) and junior Marisa Schonfeld (Washington, DC) won 8-2. In singles action, the Bears received wins from junior Bianca Aboubakare (Orange, CA) at #1 (6-3, 6-1) and sophomore Cassandra Herzberg (Miami Beach, FL) at #2 (6-4, 5-7, 6-2).
The Bears return to action next weekend when they travel to Harvard on Friday afternoon for a 2:00 p.m. match. Brown's next three matches will all be critical, as the Bears, sit in a four-way tie for second place in the Ivy League with Harvard, currently ranked #53, Dartmouth, currently ranked #48, and Yale, currently ranked #46, and the final three opponents on the schedule.
